DEAD KENNEDYS WITH JOHNNY REVOLTING, REVERIE - TUE, 6/21

American hardcore punk band Dead Kennedys formed in San Francisco in 1978. They’re noted for their harsh lyrics, which combine biting social satire while expressing a staunchly left-wing view of contemporary America. The band played a reworked version of their song “MTV Get Off The Air,” retitling it “MP3 Get Off The Web,” with lyrics criticizing musical piracy. In 1985, the band became embroiled in controversy when an insert was added to their album “Frankenchrist” added a poster with an illustration by artist H.R. Giger entitled “Penis Landscape.” The illustration depicted nine copulating penises and vaginas, which caused Los Angeles prosecutors to charge the band criminally with distribution of harmful matter to minors. Charges were later dropped but the album was banned from many record stores nationwide. Johnny Revolting and Reverie open the show.
