Top conductor Carl St. Clair, Music Director of the Pacific Symphony for more than two decades, leads this not-to-be-missed concert that includes Brahm’s Symphony No. 3 and music from Gershwin’s masterpiece Porgy and Bess, featuring the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus, soprano Angela Brown and baritone Kevin Deas. Largely influenced by his close association with Leonard Bernstein, Mr. St. Clair’s commitment to the development and performance of new works by American composers is evident in the wealth of commissions and recordings by the Pacific Symphony. Angela brown personifies the ideal soprano: sheer vocal power, luxurious finesse and shimmering, high pianissimos. Her solo renditions of “Summertime” and “My Man’s Gone Now” will be a highlight of the performance. Kevin Deas has gained international renown as one of the America’s leading bass-baritones and has is perhaps most acclaimed for his signature portrayal of the title role in “Porgy and Bess.” He has performed it with some of the most famous Philharmonics and Sympho nies in the world.
