Singer/Songwriter Melissa Ferrick is a folk rock veteran of twenty- five years. She began her career singing and playing in coffeehouses in the East Village in Manhattan. She was noticed by Atlantic Records and signed a recording contact in 1993. Melissa Ferrick is openly gay and many of her lyrics deal with gay themes. In 1999, her album “Everything I Need” was voted top album of the year by the Gay and Lesbian American Music Association. During live performances, Melissa mostly accompanies herself on acoustic guitar but occasionally performs on bass guitar, percussion and fluegelhorn. Ferrick’s rigorous touring schedule generally includes more than 150 shows per year. Her resume’ includes twelve years musical training including two year stops at the prestigious Berklee College of Music and the New England Conservatory of Music. Fourteen albums later, Melissa brings her own edgy appeal to Contemporary Folk to the Babeville’s Ninth Ward.
