THE MUSIC OF GROVER WASHINGTON JR WITH THE BOBBY MILITELLO QUINTET - WED, 6/22
Sportsmen Tavern | Wed, June 22 @ 7pm | $10
It is a tale of two Buffalo saxophone legends. The Bobby Militello Quintet will perform a tribute concert to Buffalo-born jazz icon, Grover Washington Jr. Washington was known for his gorgeous soulful tone on the Tenor Saxophone and his two pop hits “Mister Magic” and “Just the Two of Us” (collaborating with Bill Withers.) Militello boasts an local all star Buffalo jazz band including Jon Lehning (saxophones), Adam Bronstein (guitar), Harry Graser (piano), Anthony Henry (bass), Alec Dube (drums) and, of course, Bobby on saxophone and flute. Grover was one of the founders of the smooth jazz movement until he suddenly died of a massive heart attack in 1999. A large mural was painted of Grover Washington Jr. in Philadelphia after his untimely death.
