Happily, the number of young musicians reveling in Americana and roots music just keeps on growing. Parsonfeld is a five-piece Alt/folk band from Massachusetts that infuses a rowdy, rock and roll spirit into its bluegrass and folk influences. Folk Alley (Folk radio) dubbed their songs “the most jubilant and danceable indie roots music this side of the Carolinas.” The band sings lush five-part harmonies, then sound like bluegrass on steroids and next deliver cool and raucous Celtic rhythms. Expect to hear banjos, mandolins, vibes, saws, pump organs and maybe you’ll hear some crickets too. They’re releasing a new album in the fall and I’m sure some of the tracks will be featured in the 9th Ward. An infectious indie roots band not to be missed.
