The year 2013 marked the one hundred year anniversary of Igor Stravinsky’s “Rite of Spring.” as well as the 30th anniversary of the Richmond Ballet, The State Ballet of Virginia. BPO Music Director Jo Ann Falleta, who also serves as Music Director for the Richmond Symphony, conducted the orchestra for a special performance of the work with the Richmond Ballet, and was moved to bring the event to Buffalo. Choreographer Salvatore Aiello, in a his vision of the historic ballet, invented a primitive society to explore the myth of earth and life in which a chosen group of women pampered, protected and prepared for the ultimate offering to the gods. The fluid movement of the dancers builds with the music to the final shattering scene. Patron advisory: Contains mature subject matter and is not recommended for young audiences.
