“Stage Whispers” Takes on Family, Food, and Footsteps
Family dramas have been standard fare in the theatre dating back to the ancient Greeks. As the father in Geva Theatre Center’s production of Stephen Karam’s Tony Award®-winning Best Play, The Humans, Skip Greer tries his utmost to keep his family together. After the curtain falls, Greer—especially in his role as a full-time employee at Geva—also helps the cast form their own familial bonds. His talk entitled, “Keeping it in the Family: On Stage and Off,” will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2019, at 10 am in The College at Brockport’sTower Fine Arts Center Black Box Theatre, 180 Holley Street. The event is free and open to the public.
Greer, who serves as artist-in-residence and director of education at Geva, has acted in their productions of To Kill a Mockingbird (Atticus Finch), Clybourne Park (Russ/Dan), You Can’t Take It With You (Paul Sycamore), Superior Donuts (Arthur Przybyszewski), The Music Man (Mayor Shinn), Evie’s Waltz (Clay), Hamlet (Ghost, Player King), 1776 (John Hancock), House andGarden (Giles), Art (Serge), Twelve Angry Men (Juror #1), A Girl’s Life (Ken), Every Good Boy Deserves Favour (Alexander), The Illusion (Alcandre), Picasso at the Lapin Agile (Sagot) andState of the Union (Spike McManus). Directing credits at Geva include the world premiere of Hard Cell; Steel Magnolias; Red; Last Gas; On Golden Pond; Over the Tavern; Almost, Maine; the world premiere of The House in Hydesville; American Buffalo; the world premiere of Key West; Death of a Salesman; Lobby Hero; Below the Belt; The Weir; Women Who Steal; Beast on the Moon; The Triumph of Love; and Geometric Digression of the Species. Regional credits include seven seasons in the resident acting company of Sacramento Theatre Company, San Jose Repertory Company, Oregon Shakespeare Festival, American Conservatory Theatre, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Pacific Conservatory of Performing Arts and Garry Marshall’s Falcon Theatre in Los Angeles where he directed Jack Klugman, Charles Durning and Paul Dooley in Carter Lewis’ Golf With Alan Shepard. Film and TV credits include Bloodhounds, LA Law, and VR5. Greer has toured and taught internationally.
