Steven Wright is an American Stand-up comedian. His big break happened in 1982 when he appeared on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Carson, impressed with his unique brand of comedy, invited him back within a week and Steve’s career as a stand-up comedian was on its way. Wright is known for his slow, lethargic deadpan delivery of nonsensical, philosophical one-liners. In 1988, he won an Academy Award for Best Live Short Film “The Appointments of Dennis Jennings.” Examples of his one-liners include “Hard work pays off in the future, but laziness pays off now”, “ If first you don’t succeed then skydiving isn’t for you”, “I went to a French Restaurant called Deja’ Vu and the waiter asked don’t I know you” and “Smoking cures weight problems… eventually.” Go to St. Catherines and see the uncrowned master of deadpan comic delivery.
