More Rick Jeanneret
by Rodger Finerty
In defense of Patrick Broadwater (Go Away, Rick Jeanneret, Letters to Artvoice, issue v10n38) maybe Rick Jeanneret should retire. Anyone who is incapable or unwilling to to his/her job to the fullest should not hold the position. This is not an indictment of Rick’s talent. He is a Hall of Fame broadcaster. This we all know, but his infantile demands on working just home games is arrogance at best and laziness at worst. It must be a tough life on the road, huh, Rick? It’s such a bitch to board a charter flight with a comfortable seat waiting, then get bussed to the Four Seasons, call a game for a living (for hundreds of thousands a year), then fly home. Meanwhile, here on planet Earth, the rest of us mortals wish we had it so good. The final straw is Rick shunned a trip to Europe to call the games from Buffalo! Yeah, Rick, free trips to Europe are such a bitch. Eventually, the vapid, droning stylings of Kevin Sylvester will take over for good and that will be a blight on broadcasters everywhere. My vote is for Dan Dunleavy of the FAN590, who has done a few Sabres games on the radio. As for you, Rick…grow a pair.
