	One Week Before Primaries, the Crazy Comes Out by Geoff Kelly
	The madness began last Thursday afternoon, when an operative for Bernie Tolbert’s mayoral campaign called to say, “Listen, we’ve got all this material on [Mayor Byron] Brown, stuff we’ll never use. Stuff we don’t know how to use. We just don’t have time—we’ve got to start working on get-out-the-vote operations. But I hate to see it go to waste. Interested?”
	Another Campaign Finance Oddity by Geoff Kelly
	On August 30, a PAC called Democratic Action gave $7,000 to Dick Dobson’s campaign for Erie County Sheriff. What’s strange about that? In January, the PAC reported it has $2,278.57 on hand; in July it reported no new activity. So where did it come up with nearly $5,000? Eventually Democratic Action will have to say, but not until after the primary. Until then, voters remain in the dark.
	Payroll Games: Brown Administration Violating Civil Service Law? by Geoff Kelly
	Since the middle of last December, the City of Buffalo’s human resources commissioner has refused to sign off on payroll for five employees in the city’s Department of Public Works, because she believes Mayor Byron Brown’s administration is flaunting state civil service law by keeping those employees on provisional status longer than the law allows.
