Stage and screen star Bryan Cranston (pictured above) is making his Broadway debut this season portraying Lyndon Baines Johnson in the docudrama All the Way, which opened last week. Cranston is best known to TV audiences for his roles in Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad, for which he won the Emmy Award three consecutive times. All the Way also stars the fabulous Buffalo gal Roslyn Ruff, who portrays both Fannie Lou Hamer and Coretta Scott King.

Artie winner Ellen Horst will play Sister Clarissa in the Kavinoky’s production of Over the Tavern, to be directed by its author, Tom Dudzick. The play was first produced by Studio Arena 20 years ago, with the great Jeanne Cairns originating the part.

Among the shows for the 2014-2015 season, New Phoenix Theatre is planning to present The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Lanford Wilson’s Angels Fall.

Darleen Pickering Hummert returns to Shakespeare in Delaware Park this summer to play Mistress Quickly in Henry V, directed by Saul Elkin. Several years ago, Hummert played the character in The Merry Wives of Windsor (directed by Kathryn Long), and then in Henry IV, Part One (directed by Derek Campbell). Henry V will also star, among others, Patrick Moltane (as Henry), Tim Newell, Adam Rath, Marie Costa, Adam Yellen, Gerry Maher, and Tom Laughlin. The production runs June 19-July 13. And, don’t forget, Shakespeare’s 20th Annual Fabulous Feast will take place April 5 at Connecticut Street Armory.

Chautauqua Theater Company will kick off its 2014 summer season with Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun. The summer lineup will also include Shakespeare’s The Tempest, and The May Queen, a new play by Molly Smith Metzler.

O’Connell & Company’s upcoming production of Godspell, directed and choreographed by Joey Bucheker, with musical direction by Susan Blanchard, will run April 24-May 25. In the meantime, the company is celebrating Diva by Diva’s 16th anniversary with shows every Wednesday in March at 7:30pm.

The fabulous Bethany Moore, who is currently starring in Pippin on Broadway (pictured left holding the show’s dog understudy), will be back in Buffalo on Monday, March 24, performing in an evening of song and story at the New Phoenix at 8pm. Darryl Schneider’s Artie-winning play Clean Break will receive a reading at New York’s Barrow Group Theatre Company on June 1. Clean Break premiered at Road Less Traveled in 2012 and was developed at the company’s Manny Fried’s New Play Workshop. By the way, the participating playwrights in this year’s workshop will include Courtney Frances Fallon, Rosa Fernandez-Rivera, Joy Scime, Tracy Snyder, and Winifred Storms.

Musicalfare kicks off its cabaret series at its beautifully expanded and renovated lounge space, April 4-6, with A Tribute to the Music of Louis Prima, starring Norm Sham, Debbie Pappas, and Jim Runfola with a six-piece band. The space features table seating and a full-service bar. Call 839-8540.

Coming up in May, BUA will present the WNY premiere of Cock, a comedy by British playwright Mike Bartlett. Directed by Drew McCabe, the production will star Steve Brachmann, Jamie Nablo, Sean Marciniak, and Shaun McLaughlin.

Thomas LaChiusa, Lisa Vitrano, and James Heffron have joined Subversive Theatre’s upcoming production of Miller’s classic A View From the Bridge, directed by Kurt Schneiderman. The subsequent show, Death and the Maiden, will be directed by Rebecca Ward.

Actress and singer Sheila MacRae (pictured below) died last week at the age of 92. Best known for playing Alice Kramden in the 1960s version of The Honeymooners, MacRae played Miss Adelaide in a 1965 Broadway production of Guys and Dolls.
