Robotika 2Kay: Drag Queen

Get to know a Buffalonian...

The Club Marcella performer and two-time winner of Miss Gay Buffalo has been a mainstay of the drag scene for over nine years. Alternately known as “Short Circuit Fembot Queen, all the way from Uranus,” “The Tallest Queen in Buffalo’s Captivity,” and, finally, “The Mother of all Freaks,” Miss Robotika is considered one of the strangest, most extreme, and definitely most fabulous of Buffalo’s drag performers.

How long does it typically take you to get ready for a show?

With hair, makeup and costume, about two hours. Sometimes I like to have more time to allow me to “slip into” my character.

What are some of the highlights of your show? How is it different from other performers in Buffalo?

My performances are different in that I am a drag queen, not a female impersonator. I like over-the-top makeup, as in color and amount of application, big hair, big voice, big attitude.

What is the most outrageous thing you have ever done on stage?

Hmmm…outrageous…I’d have to say I was hosting the show and asked for a bottle water, when I saw the brand of water it was I turned up my nose and poured it all over the closest person’s head.

How would you compare your stage persona to your “real” persona?

We are two different people. In the way I act, the way I carry myself, my favorites and dislikes, and I cannot be held accountable for Robotika’s actions.

Who are some of your idols or famous people from whom you draw inspiration?

Lady GaGa, Cher, Madonna, Rasputina, Aqua, Toy Box, Scissor Sisters…The fluffier the better.

How would you describe the gay community in Buffalo? What are some of its strengths and weaknesses?

Strengths are that there is a lot of culture in Buffalo for the size of it. A lot of larger cities don’t have the clubs, bars, benefits that we have here. Weaknesses could be that there are so many “cliques” inside of the gay community. We should all come together united and fabulous.

Do you have any personal fashion tips for the successful gender makeover?

Don’t EVER use duct tape on bare skin.

BONUS: What song should be playing and what drink would you be drinking whenever you enter a room?

“Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” by Cyndi Lauper and a Shirley Temple with a shot of cherry vodka. Innocent and just a little BAD!
