Odds & Ends
by Geoff Kelly
• Today (Thursday, Februrary 16), there will be a public hearing in Buffalo Common Council chambers on the proposed reapportionment plan for state legislative districts, which will likely be settled in the courts. Inconveniently for the public, it takes place at 10:30am.
• It looks as if the Democratic majority in the Erie County Legislature has agreed to make David Shenk, clerk for the Town of Boston, the next Erie County comptroller. Though lacking the experience and credentials of the other four finalists for the Erie County Democratic Party’s recommendation, Shenk was the candidate favored by the party’s chairman, Len Lenihan, perhaps in part because he came with the promise that he’d carry the Conservative Party endorsement when he runs to keep the seat this fall. Shenk fills the vacancy left by Mark Poloncarz.
• New York State Senator Mark Grisanti has been a supporter of a bill that would legalize mixed martial arts fights in New York State. Looks like he jumped the gun last weekend, eh?
