The super-fabulous Cherry Jones (pictured left) was inducted in New York’s Theatre Hall of Fame this past Monday. Jones is a top favorite for this year’s Tony award for her performance in The Glass Menagerie, which ends its extended limited run on Broadway on February 23. Jones will be back on the New York stage in May, starring in the world premiere of When We Were Young and Unafraid, directed by Buffalo’s Pam MacKinnon. This year’s Hall of Fame inductees include, among others, actress Ellen Burstyn, director George C. Wolfe, British producer Cameron Mackintosh, and, posthumously, playwright Lorraine Hansberry. (Her play A Raisin in the Sun will be back on Broadway in March starring Diahann Carroll, Denzel Washington, and Stephen McKinley Henderson.)

Playwright Christopher Durang (who just turned 65 in January) had a good year in 2013. He was inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame and then won his first Tony award for his play Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike. A very prolific playwright, Durang also wrote the book and lyrics for the hilarious musical Adrift in Macao, which Musicalfare will present in April. Directed by Randall Kramer, with musical direction by Theresa Quinn and choreography by Michael Walline, the production will star Ben Puglisi, Steve Copps, Kelly Copps, Kay Kerimian, Marc Sacco, Nick Lama, and Bethany Burrows. The fabulous Michele Ragusa starred in the original New York production in 2007, and in the 2005 world premiere in Philadelphia. Musicalfare is planning to kick off next season with the musical The Drowsy Chaperone.

Speaking of Ragusa, she is back in New York playing a series of characters in the two-hander comedy Craving for Travel.

Up next for American Repertory Theater, Michael Gazzo’s drama about love and heroin addiction, A Hatful of Rain. The play had a successful run on Broadway in the 1950s and was made into a movie in 1957, starring Eva Marie Saint and Anthony Franciosa. Directed by Matthew LaChiusa, the local production will star Hugh Davis, Maura Nolan, Victor Morales, Raphael Santos, Monish Bhattacharyya, Steve Brachmann, and Leo Dibello. Hatful of Rain runs March 6-29.

David Lindsay-Abaire’s 2011 Tony-nominated play Good People will make its Western New York premiere at the Kavinoky, March 7-30. Directed by Robert Waterhouse, the production will star Eileen Dugan, Lisa Ludwig, Anne Gayley, Peter Palmisano, Geoff Pictor, and April Jones. Lindsay-Abaire was also nominated for a Tony in 2006 for his play Rabbit Hole, and in 2009 for the book and lyrics for Shrek The Musical. Rabbit Hole won the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for drama. And following the Kavinoky’s huge success with Tom Dudzick’s Miracle on South Division Street last November, Dudzick will return to direct his now classic Over the Tavern for Curtain Up this September.

BUA will present Jimmy Janowski in the one-person show Blanche Survives Katrina in a FEMA Trailer Named Desire, to be presented in April at Alleyway’s Main Street Cabaret, directed by Todd Warfield.

Guy Wagner will play Lieutenant Columbo in Desiderio’s upcoming production of the mystery/thriller Prescription: Murder, which opens on February 8. This 1960s play was the inspiration for the TV show Columbo that starred Peter Falk. Directed by Jay Desiderio, the production will also star David Marciniak, Alley Griffin, and Hillary Jebuski.

The Brazen-Faced Varlets will present Robin Rice Lichtig’s Foobs and Fipples: The Breast Monologues for two performances on February 28 at 7pm and 9pm at Hallwalls. Described as “a funny and poignant exploration of women celebrating the joy and pain that comes with carrying around a set of breasts,” the show will be directed by Kelly Beuth.

The fabulous Elisabeth Rohm (pictured right) finally got a SAG Award last week as part of the ensemble of the film American Hustle. Best known for playing ADA Serena Southerlyn for four seasons in TV’s Law & Order, Rohm was nominated for a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 2001 and 2003. Rohm’s American Hustle co-star Bradley Cooper will return to Broadway next fall to star in a revival of The Elephant Man.
