Artvoice readers weigh in on Valentine's Day
Artvoice readers weigh in on Valentine's DayIS IT WISE TO HAVE YOUR FIRST DATE ON VALENTINE’S DAY?
Laura Minor: No. Too many high expectations
Nicole: Sure. Make it original, though–
Eugene: Yes, I went to see the movie “CHICAGO” and we have been together ever since. 2003–
Rita: No way!–
A. Klein: My youngest son would say yes to that, he was born 9 month later. Forget the candy, give condoms!
Mairin-Taj Caya: It is a bit of a risk, but it’s not out of the question–
Jen: Maybe a lunch date
Cyndi Stonebraker: Only if you enjoy added stress–
Carly Robbins: No, that would be weird and pressured in my opinion–
Ann: We had our first date on Valentine’s Day three years ago and now we are engaged. I think people put too much pressure on themselves and the day. Just treat it like any other and look to have a good time!
Haleigh: Only if you just met–
SHOULD YOU SEND A VALENTINE GIFT TO YOUR EX?
Laura Minor: Probably not a great idea but I’ve done it. No.
Nicole: Never
Eugene: Not a good idea. Get over it
Rita: No, unless the two of you are one of those off-again, on-again couples, and will end up back together in a week anyway
Mairin-Taj Caya: Sure, why not?! I would love to watch a few of my exes eat some rancid chocolate!
Jen: No, unless it’s toxic
Cyndi Stonebraker: Why would you even consider it?
Carly Robbins: No, why would you do that- ever?
Ann: No. Why waste your time/money?
Haleigh: Only if you’re trying to win her back
HOW DO YOU HANDLE IT WHEN YOU HAVE MORE THAN ONE VALENTINE (LUCKY YOU)?
Nicole: Plan accordingly. Shower twice that day
Eugene: It’s easy to have many secret admirers, just tell your partner they are good friends
Rita: With severe awkwardness...I’d probably just attempt to skip the whole Valentine’s Day thing entirely
A. Klein: I love both my children equally!
Mairin-Taj Caya: Only if you are both single and the spark might be rekindled.
Jen: Keep everything casual, no commitments, no jerking people around, but enjoy it! I don’t have to! Hey-ooo
Cyndi Stonebraker: This is not something I have personal experience with
Carly Robbins: Go with whoever asks first on the day of their choosing
Haleigh: #blessed
WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY?
Laura Minor: Nice dinner, flowers and chocolate. There must be chocolate!
Nicole: Diapers, baby snot, a card and balloons
Eugene: Not to get VD
Rita: Not much. My boyfriend always makes me a silly card, which I love, and we normally end up getting each other our favorite flavor of Ritter chocolate bar
A. Klein: Stay warm and dry and if I get a Baby Ruth candy bar I will be a very lucky girl...even if I buy it
Cyndi Stonebraker: To spend the day with my soul mate like we do any other Saturday
Carly Robbins: Stay indoors
Ann: To not have expectations
Haleigh: Either wallow in pity with my single ladies or meet someone between now & then
WOULD YOU DUMP SOMEONE WHO DIDN’T BUY YOU FLOWERS OR ANY OTHER GIFTS ON VALENTINE’S DAY?
Laura Minor: Last year my husband got me a WBFO membership. We did not divorce, but it has been made clear that he should not make a similar mistake this year
Nicole: No that’s dumb. An IOU would be in order though
Eugene: Not really. If you work in an office it’s hard not to be getting flowers when all the other ladies are
Rita: Nah, I kinda hate being told what day I’m supposed to celebrate affection anyway
A. Klein: Only if he bought some other woman flowers
Mairin-Taj Caya: No. Don’t be a prick over a flimsy holiday
Cyndi Stonebraker: No love is not about “stuff”
Carly Robbins: No, but if you’re with someone for a while and you do nothing together it is a letdown
Haleigh: They’d have to be pretty great otherwise
YOU’RE DATELESS, NOW WHAT?
Nicole: Chill with my mom. It’ll cheer her up ¬
Eugene: I am never dateless, but if I were I’d get together with single friends and go out and find a new lover
Rita: If it’s a weekend, hit the bars!
Mairin-Taj Caya: Enjoy the day for yourself, have fun. There is no shame in going solo
Cyndi Stonebraker: Not always a bad thing. I’d take myself to dinner and a movie
Carly Robbins: Dont go out on Valentine’s day, lol or expect to feel let down
Ann: Read a book or watch a movie... Be your own date Haleigh: Make a date with yourself & 50 Shades of Grey
WHERE WOULD YOU HUNT FOR A VALENTINE?
Eugene: Any restaurant, internet website, or bar
Rita: The Pink. Best bar ever!
A. Klein: Gander Mountain
Mairin-Taj Caya: If you feel the need to “hunt” for one, just for a day, then you’re doing it wrong
Jen: You mean get off the couch? Ugh!
Haleigh: Line for the bathroom at Thirsty Buffalo
