Fri 2/5 Night Slaves Cassette Release Party

Mohawk Place, 8pm, $5

Buffalo natives industrial duo Night Slaves (John Toohill of Johns/Alpha Hopper and David Kane of Them Jazzbeards) are releasing a six-song cassette this Friday night at the Mohawk. They’ll be joined by Malaria Control (Kevin O’Brien Cain with a noise/poetry set), bands Cages and VWLS, and visuals by Flatsitter.

FRI 2/5 9th Annual Mardis Gras Jam

Buffalo Iron Works, 7pm, $15-20

Can’t wait until Tuesday to start partying for Mardi Gras? Don’t worry. The Big Easy in Buffalo presents the 9th Annual Mardi Gras Jam starring The Marc Stone Band with special guest Chuck Campbell of The Campbell Brothers this Friday night. The Heavenly Chillbillies and Kenmore East student band French Quarter Hounds will also perform.

SAT 2/6 FBBC MARDI GRAS PARTY W/ BLACK ROCK ZYDECO

Flying Bison Brewery, 1pm, $10 for buffet

FBBC is featuring a Mardi Gras party with live music from Creole/Zydeco masters Black Rock Zydeco from 1-4 pm this Saturday. Access to the buffet is $10 and includes Jambalaya, Red Beans & rice with Andouille Sausage, Pulled Pork sliders, cheesy grits, Mazurek’s king cake, and one beer ticket. There will be a special keg tapping, scavenger hunt, and prizes for best costumes, the most beads, and more.

SAT 2/6 VEGAN CHILI COOK-OFF

Come and try some vegan chili or bring a pot of your own for a chance to win prizes to local establishments. This event is free and open to the public and everyone will get a ballot to vote for their favorite chili. Ballots will be collected at 8:00.

SAT 2/6 Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage

Shea’s Performing Arts Center, 8pm, $47-62

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary Concert Tour of Star Trek with this live to projection, symphonic concert experience. Listen to the music from The Original Series, The Motion Picture, The Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, etc. as footage from favorite episodes and films are played on the big screen.

SAT 2/6 Reel Big Fish

Town Ballroom, 8pm, $18.50-22

Reel Big Fish, the ska punk band from Huntington Beach, California, best known for their 90s mainstream popularity and top single hits like 97’s “Sell Out”, perform at Town Ballroom on Saturday night. With two decades of albums and a huge cult flowing, these guys are sure to put on a fun, dance-happy show.
