Enter the Haggis

If you haven’t had enough of St. Patrick’s Day festivities after last weekend, you’re in (Irish) luck. Toronto’s Celtic rock band Enter the Haggis again honors Buffalo with a concert as part of its annual month-long St. Patrick’s Day celebration. The group has recently returned from a weeklong tour of Ireland with the Elders, a tour that gave the band extra energy (if such a thing is possible) for the tour back home. Brian Buchanan, the vocalist, fiddler and keyboard player, said that “Going to Ireland gives us a chance to remember the rich culture and passionate people…and it reminds us just what it is we’re celebrating when we come back home.” For those of us who long to experience the Emerald Isle, the show can take you there, in a way—one filled with Celtic-influenced rock and much more. Boasting up to 18 different genres of music in their repertoire, Enter the Haggis is one of the highest-energy bands around, innovative yet true to tradition. Their last album was 2006’s Soapbox Heroes, and after traveling extensively through both North America and Europe, the band will be working on new material before festival season this summer. Opening the night at 8pm sharp are McCarthyizm and the August, two bands guaranteed to add to the excitement.
