Hands Off Pensions
by Hans Heckelman
There is a consistent drive by conservative groups to eliminate pensions and Social Security, especially government pensions, and use vouchers instead. The plan is irrational since the “free enterprise” economy is totally volatile.
Pensions and Social Security Insurance help boost the economy. More important than high wages are methods of keeping prices lower, or at least stable. Inflation fuels the economics and formulas of recession, depression, and possibly dictatorship. The 1930s and 1940s proved this.
More important that lowering taxes is strengthening the purchasing power of the people. That sets the stage for recovery.
