Sweet Jesus, It's Greg Sterlace

Not to be encouraging needless displays of egotism in Buffalo’s longest-lived public access host, but it might not have been a bad idea for local production company No Budget Films to have called their new effort Greg Sterlace’s Sweet Jesus, as opposed to simply Sweet Jesus. That would serve as both promotion and warning to evangelicals who might be expecting the wrong thing.

Sterlace’s third movie (after Ross & Gwen and Failure) wonders what would happen if Jesus returned to Earth today. As played by the New Phoenix Theatre’s Richard Lambert, he puts together an all-female crew of apostles and takes advantage of modern media to get his word out. But is that enough to reach the hearts and minds of people, especially when his message runs counter to the agendas of those in control?

With a cast featuring Constance McEwen, Gweniviere Kiersz, Lukia Costello, Love Slating, David Butler and Tom Tiberi as the voice of God, Sweet Jesus will have its premier screening Saturday at 7pm at the Market Arcade Film & Arts Centre. There will be a post-party open to the public at the Century Grill (320 Pearl Street) immediately after the screening featuring local musicians who contributed to the soundtrack.

Saturday, June 3 at 7pm. Market Arcade Film & Arts Centre (639 Main Street), 855-3022. $7
