Jennifer Steinkamp Solo Exhibition

JENNIFER STEINKAMP solo exhibition

An exhibition of spectacular video installations by Los Angeles-based artist Jennifer Steinkamp opens at the Albright-Knox this weekend, during this week’s Gusto at the Gallery. An ideal place to explore the artist’s sense of architecture, space and perception, the gallery will be hosting this first survey of her work—organized by the San Jose Museum of Art—through the end of June. These three-dimensional works are dramatic examples of the prolific technological and video art that is currently being made. Steinkamp is set apart from the rest of new media artists by the scale and scope of her imagery; she creates truly extravagant, nearly overwhelming visual pieces. An educator’s workshop, “Jennifer Steinkamp: Light, Color, Action!” by Associate Curator of Education Nancy Spector will be held on Saturday, March 15, from 10am-1pm. Although the exhibition opens this Friday, there’s another reception at next Friday’s Gusto at the Gallery (March 21) which includes a discussion with Steinkamp regarding her work at 6pm.
