AMD Stock Crosses $1 Trillion In Market Value For The First Time Monday
Advanced Micro Devices crossed the $1 trillion market capitalization threshold for the first time Monday, shares surging 9.95 percent to a record closing price of $615.52 after a five-day rally in which the stock gained approximately 25 percent. AMD is up more than 180 percent for the year.
The milestone makes AMD the fourth American chipmaker to join the trillion-dollar club alongside Nvidia, Broadcom and Micron.
It is also a notable flip in the competitive landscape: AMD's roughly $1 trillion valuation is now approximately $352 billion above Intel's $648 billion market cap — a company that was once many times larger than AMD and its dominant rival.
The fuel for the rally is the same as it has been all year: AI. AMD's data center revenue hit $6.7 billion in Q2, up 107 percent year over year, as demand for its MI300X and MI325X AI accelerators grew alongside competitors building out infrastructure that requires alternatives to Nvidia's dominant H100 and B200 chips.
CEO Lisa Su said during the Q2 earnings call that AMD expected to double data center sales in 2027.
Intel rose 12 percent and Arm Holdings rose 14 percent on the same day as a broader semiconductor sector rally lifted the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index more than 4 percent. Nvidia remains the largest chipmaker in the world at approximately $5.4 trillion.
