NEWS

Acting Erie County DA Mike Flaherty and Gina Browning, the long-serving public relations director of the SPCA, stand together after last week’s announcement by Flaherty about the partnership between the animal shelter and his office in going after cases of animal cruelty. Flaherty established the office’s first Animal Cruelty Unit under Justen Wallens and visited the SPCA of Erie County to alert the public of the recent successes by the unit in the prosecution of animal abusers including the conviction of two people charged with cruelty for the severe malnourishment of Diamond, a Doberman Pinscher. The dog received medical care at the SPCA and all of us who love animals certainly tip our hats to the shelter and prosecutors for cracking down on anyone who would abuse a defenseless animal.
