Denton, Texas quartet Centro-matic plays in Buffalo on Tuesday (June 10) at Mohawk Place. A slimmed down version of the band South San Gabriel, Centro-matic is a faction of the fellow Texas group, comprised of SSG’s four core members: Will Johnson (lead vocals, guitar, songwriter), Matt Pence (percussion), Scott Danbom (piano, violin, backing vocals, bass), and Mark Hedman (bass, guitar). Though South San Gabriel boasts quite a few more players, it is a much more subdued and quieter counterpart to Centro-matic, which is up-tempo, even fist-pumping by comparison. The band’s latest release, 2008’s Dual Hawks (Misra), is a joint effort between the two projects, a side-by-side showcase of the differences and similarities between them. Monday’s show starts at 9pm with support from the M’s and Semi-Tough.
