Former Fox News Journalist Jennifer Eckhart Dead at 36
Jennifer Eckhart, 36, died by suicide on September 19 at her home in Hobe Sound, Florida. The Martin County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the ruling. Her mother found her at the property shortly before noon.
A heavy police presence was reported outside the home Saturday morning. A paramedic pronounced her dead at 11:57 AM.
Eckhart was a University of Florida graduate who built a career in television journalism, working as an ESPN Radio correspondent, an entertainment anchor at WUFT-TV in Gainesville and an associate producer at Fox Business and Fox News.
She became widely known in 2020 when she filed a federal lawsuit accusing former Fox News anchor Ed Henry of rape, alleging he sexually assaulted her at a New York hotel while they both worked at the network and that she feared he had the power to destroy her career.
Fox News fired Henry in July 2020 following an investigation. Henry denied the allegations, calling the relationship consensual. A federal judge later dismissed Fox News Media as a defendant but the case against Henry proceeded.
After leaving Fox, Eckhart reinvented herself, launching a podcast called REINVENTED focused on people who had overcome adversity, and founding The Reinvented Project, a nonprofit using animal-assisted healing for trauma survivors. Her Instagram bio read: "Force for good. Truth seeker."
She was 36 years old.
