'Godzilla Minus Zero' Drops A New Trailer Teasing Ghidorah For November
Toho and GKIDS dropped a new trailer and cast additions Tuesday for Godzilla Minus Zero, the sequel to Takashi Yamazaki's Oscar-winning 2023 blockbuster Godzilla Minus One, which became the highest-grossing Japanese film in history and the first non-English language film to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.
The trailer opens with the news fans suspected: Godzilla was not destroyed in the first film. It picks up in 1949, two years after the events of Minus One, as Japan continues its agonizing postwar recovery only to face a new catastrophe.
A roar in the trailer teases Ghidorah, the three-headed rival kaiju from the original Toho films, suggesting Godzilla may not be the only monster Japan faces this time.
Returning leads Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe are back as Koichi and Noriko Shikishima. New cast additions include Masami Nagasawa as Makoto Aoyama, a genius weather forecaster assigned to the Disaster Response Bureau, and Kunimura Jun as Dr. Ogata.
The sequel is 10 minutes longer than its predecessor at 135 minutes and is the first Japanese production ever to carry the Filmed for IMAX designation, shot with IMAX-certified digital cameras and optimized specifically for IMAX screens.
The world premiere is the Spotlight Gala selection of the 64th New York Film Festival on September 26. It opens in Japan November 3 and across North America November 6.
