Trey McBride Had Nine Catches 95 Yards And A Touchdown As The Cardinals Stunned The Chargers In Week 1
Trey McBride opened the 2026 season the way he ended 2025, making life miserable for any defense that tries to cover him.
The All-Pro tight end caught nine of his 13 targets for 95 yards and a touchdown as the Arizona Cardinals stunned the Los Angeles Chargers 26-14 in a game where McBride's 33 percent air yards share made him the unquestioned center of the offense.
The first play of the game told the whole story, a 27-yard grab where McBride went up, absorbed a hit and came down with it cleanly. The touchdown in the fourth quarter was the dagger.
Quarterback Jacoby Brissett admitted postgame the play design was not great, but McBride made the catch anyway. "I like my odds on that," McBride said. Brissett added: "He's as good as advertised and saying that is still a downplay of how good he is."
Coming off a season of 126 receptions, the most ever by a Cardinals player, McBride's nine catches moved him to 38 career games with five or more receptions in his first five seasons, tying Kellen Winslow Sr. and Antonio Gates, second only to Jimmy Graham's 46. He is 26 years old and already a franchise pillar.
Week 2 brings the Seahawks to Glendale. Seattle's defense is historically tough on tight ends. McBride will be fine.
