Bruce Campbell Reveals Heartbreaking Health Update
Bruce Campbell, the 68-year-old actor best known for playing Ash Williams in Sam Raimi's Evil Dead franchise across 45 years of films and the Ash vs. Evil Dead TV series, posted on social media in March 2026 to share that he has been diagnosed with cancer, saying he wanted to get ahead of any false information before it spread.
"That's about it. I'm not trying to enlist sympathy, or advice, I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will)," he wrote.
He did not specify what type of cancer he has or what stage it is, saying only that it is treatable but not curable. He was forced to cancel several convention appearances this summer because he felt treatment and professional obligations "don't go hand-in-hand."
He closed his announcement with characteristic Ash Williams energy: "Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-b---- and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while. As always, you're the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!"
Campbell's announcement came as he has been stepping back from the Evil Dead franchise, his final cameo, appearing only in family photographs in Evil Dead Burn which opened in July, is the last time he expects to appear in the series.
He has been focusing his energy on his indie dramedy Ernie and Emma, which he wrote, directed and stars in, and is taking on a tour of Alamo Drafthouse locations for Q&A screenings.
