'Patient Zero': Taylor Swift Announces A New Single Coming Friday
Taylor Swift has been impatiently waiting to tell you something. Tuesday afternoon at 2 PM Eastern, a countdown on her website ended and the announcement dropped: a brand new single called "Patient Zero" releases this Friday September 25.
The rollout was vintage Swift scavenger hunt. She replaced every letter "O" in her Instagram bio with a zero, "And, baby, that's sh0w business f0r y0u," and made the same O-to-zero change to the "Life of a Showgirl" chorus lyrics on Apple Music.
She appeared in a cryptic pre-taped sketch at the Emmys on September 14 in which she looked directly into the camera and said "Saccharide." She dropped the countdown on her website two hours before the reveal.
"I've been impatiently waiting to tell you that my brand new single 'Patient Zero' will be out on September 25 (!!!!!!!!!!!!) and it's available to pre-order now on my website for 24 hours. 0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣0️⃣," she wrote on Instagram.
Three limited-edition CD versions, standard, acoustic and piano, were available for 24 hours at $3.99 each.
"Patient Zero" is her second release of 2026, following "I Knew It, I Knew You" from the Toy Story 5 soundtrack in June. It arrives two days before the MTV VMAs on September 27, where Swift will receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors award and is nominated for nine awards including Video of the Year.
