ESPN Analyst Chris Spatola Dies At 47

Chris Spatola died unexpectedly Monday at the age of 47. ESPN confirmed his death Tuesday. No cause was given.

The Krzyzewski family, Spatola was married to Coach K's daughter Jamie, released a statement: "There are no words to adequately express our heartbreak over the loss of our beloved Chris Spatola. Chris served our country, was a devoted husband and father, and was such an important part of our family. We respectfully ask for privacy as our entire family, particularly Jamie and her three beautiful children, grieve and process this unimaginable loss."

Spatola's life was built across three careers, each of which would have been enough on its own. He was a four-year starting guard at West Point from 1998 to 2002, leading the Army Black Knights in scoring three of those four years and finishing as one of Army's top 10 all-time scorers.

After graduation he served five years on active duty, deploying in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and earning the Joint Service Commendation Medal for exceptional combat performance in combat.

From 2007 to 2012 he joined Mike Krzyzewski's staff at Duke, helping the Blue Devils win the 2010 national championship and serving as a court coach for the gold-medal US teams at the 2008 Olympics and 2010 FIBA World Championship.

He joined ESPN in 2015 and spent more than a decade as one of college basketball's most respected studio and game analysts.

"He was thoughtful, prepared and passionate about the sport," ESPN said.
