Apple officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max today at the Surprise and Shine event at Apple Park, and the headlining feature is something no iPhone has ever had: variable aperture.

The new 48MP Fusion Main camera uses six laser-cut blades to smoothly transition between aperture settings, automatically adjusting for depth of field and lighting, with manual control available through the new Pro controls in the Camera app.

The A20 Pro chip inside is built on a 2nm process with 50 percent more memory bandwidth than its predecessor, a 7-core GPU that is 40 percent faster and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine that doubles the AI processing power of the A19 Pro.

Battery life takes a massive leap, the eSIM-only Pro Max delivers up to 45 hours of video playback, and five minutes of wired charging provides around seven hours of playback. The Pro charges to 50 percent in about 15 minutes.

A new feature called Apple Reference Image lets photographers prove the authenticity of any photo taken on the device, the camera signs every pixel at capture, creating an unalterable reference file.

The Dynamic Island is redesigned to show three Live Activities simultaneously. Both models run iOS 27 with the new Siri AI rolling out in beta at launch.

Colors: black, silver, glacier and new burgundy. Pre-orders open Saturday September 12. Devices ship September 18. iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199. iPhone 18 Pro Max starts at $1,299.
