Myles Garrett Will Have Arthroscopic Knee Surgery, Headed To IR
One game in and already on injured reserve. Myles Garrett, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year who the Rams acquired for Jared Verse and three draft picks including a 2027 first-rounder, will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery and be placed on IR, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport Sunday.
Garrett missed most of training camp with knee swelling, acknowledged before the Melbourne game that he was only about 85 percent healthy, got zero tackles in the 49ers' 27-7 win and called it "the worst version of myself that I've put out there."
Now it is confirmed: the knee was not manageable. Surgery is happening.
He will miss at least four games and is eligible to return for the Rams' Week 6 game at home against the Arizona Cardinals.
His first chance to play alongside Aaron Donald, who came out of retirement and could make his Rams debut as early as Week 2 against the Giants on Monday Night Football, has been pushed back at minimum to October.
"I've got to find a way to recover and get back to the player I know I can be," Garrett said. The Rams gave up everything to get him. They are now waiting for the version he described.
