Chris Olave Records Career-Best 182 Yards
Chris Olave had the best game of his career on Sunday, and went home with a loss. The Saints wide receiver caught 10 of 13 targets for a career-high 182 yards against the Lions at Ford Field, including a 47-yard bomb and two other gains over 40 yards, as Tyler Shough turned the corner in the third quarter and started feeding Olave deep.
The 182 yards are tied for fifth in Saints franchise history for a single game and second-most in a season opener, behind only Wes Chandler's 205 in 1979.
The Saints trailed 21-0 before rallying in the third quarter with touchdowns from Kendre Miller, Devaughn Vele and Juwan Johnson.
They tied the game at 24-24 in the fourth quarter and sent it to overtime when trailing 31-24, then Tyler Shough hit Antonio Johnson to make it 31-30 and went for two.
The 2-point conversion fell incomplete. Saints lose 31-30. Olave also recorded his 300th career reception in the game.
Despite the loss Shough was 35-of-56 for 410 yards, his own career high. If this passing game continues to click, Olave is going to put up video game numbers this season.
