Sean Lennon Announces The Birth Of His Son Aurelius The First Grandchild Of John Lennon
Sean Ono Lennon posted on Instagram Tuesday night with the announcement the world's most famous rock legacy has been waiting for: "Okay so...Charlotte and I would like to announce that we have indeed created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!"
He shared photos of himself and girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl holding their newborn son. Another caption read simply "Baby Momma!"
Aurelius is the first grandchild of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. Julian Lennon, Sean's half-brother, had first hinted at the birth in a since-deleted Instagram post in which he appeared to congratulate Sean and Charlotte and refer to himself as a new uncle.
Sean is 51 years old. Muhl is 39. The couple have been together since 2007. There had been no prior public announcement that they were expecting, and photos from June showed no sign of a pregnancy, suggesting a surrogate was involved.
The poetry of the moment is real. John Lennon wrote "Beautiful Boy (Darling Boy)" for Sean in 1980, the song where a father watches his newborn son and imagines the life ahead of him. John was murdered three months after that album was released.
He never got to see Sean grow up. Now Sean, the boy the song was written for, is a father. He has his own beautiful boy. His name is Aurelius.
