Tay Keith, Producer Behind 'Sicko Mode,' Dead At 29
The Nashville Medical Examiner's Office has determined that Tay Keith, the 29-year-old Memphis producer born Brytavious Lakeith Chambers who helped define the sound of modern hip-hop, died from the toxic effects of an accidental drug overdose.
TMZ obtained the medical examiner's report Wednesday. Ketamine, mitragynine and several other kratom compounds were found in his system, alongside nicotine and ethanol.
The examiner also noted mild coronary artery disease. Drug paraphernalia was found at the scene. The manner of death was ruled an accident.
Keith was found unresponsive in his Nashville apartment on June 18 during a welfare check. He was 29 years old. No foul play was suspected at the time. A memorial was held June 30 at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts in Memphis.
In a career built at lightning speed, Keith co-produced Travis Scott's Sicko Mode, earning him a Grammy nomination, along with Drake's Nonstop and Rich Flex, Eminem's Not Alike, and records with Beyoncé, Sexyy Red, Gunna and Lil Baby.
He was one of the most recognizable producer brands in rap, known for his signature "Tay Keith, f--- these n---- up" drop. He was only getting started.
