Trump Calls For A Ban On The Canadian Aerospace Company Bombardier
President Trump escalated his trade war with Canada on Monday night by calling for a ban on Bombardier, the Montreal-based aerospace company that makes business jets and regional aircraft, from selling its planes in the United States. "NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES!" Trump wrote on Truth Social. "Their products aren't good enough!"
He charged that the company relies on American buyers, airports and service infrastructure while Canada blocks American banks and companies. "If they want our Market," he added, "they must build here, and stop treating America like a 'piggybank.'"
The post came hours before Canada's retaliatory tariffs on nearly $20 billion in American goods took effect at midnight Tuesday, the latest round of tit-for-tat escalation in the US-Canada trade dispute.
The pushback was swift and bipartisan in its practical effect. Republican Senator Jerry Moran of Kansas, whose state hosts Bombardier's US headquarters in Wichita, said he reached out to the Trump administration to make sure the president understood the company's importance to Kansas workers.
Bombardier responded by listing its American operations: facilities in Texas, Arizona, Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, Delaware, California, New Jersey and Washington D.C., thousands of American jobs and a defense expansion underway.
The wings for what Bombardier calls the world's fastest business jet are made by American workers in Red Oak, Texas. A new facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana opens later this year.
No formal executive action has been announced. The post remains a Truth Social declaration rather than a legal prohibition.
