Keenan Allen Faces A Minimum Three-Game Suspension After His DUI Arrest

Keenan Allen's first season with the Indianapolis Colts just got more complicated. The six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver is facing a minimum three-game NFL suspension after being formally charged Tuesday with two misdemeanor counts of drunk driving stemming from his August 30 arrest in downtown Indianapolis, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday.

Three-game suspensions are mandated by the NFL's collective bargaining agreement for cases involving intoxicated driving.

The CBA also stipulates longer suspensions are possible depending on the level of intoxication, and Allen's .224 blood-alcohol content at the time of his arrest was nearly three times Indiana's legal limit of .08, which prompted the more serious Class A misdemeanor charge. That puts a longer suspension squarely in play.

The timing of the suspension has not been determined. The NFL is expected to wait for Allen's legal case to conclude before imposing any discipline.

His next court appearance is October 26. He is currently active and playing in the meantime, he caught six passes for 32 yards in Week 1 against the Ravens and missed Week 2 against the Chiefs as the Colts lost 33-30 in overtime with Alec Pierce also carted off with a heel injury.

The Colts are 0-2 and losing pieces of their receiving corps by the week.
