Stefon Diggs Fined $14,926 For Costly Week One Goalpost Celebration

The NFL has released its first round of 2026 fines and Stefon Diggs is on the list, charged $14,926 for unsportsmanlike conduct for hugging the goalpost after his first touchdown as a Commander, the same celebration that cost Washington a chance at a two-point conversion in their 24-22 Week 1 loss to the Eagles.

The $14,926 is the league's standard first-offense unsportsmanlike conduct fine. A second offense would cost him $20,897.

It is also the second time in his career Diggs has been fined for a goalpost celebration, he did the same thing with Minnesota in 2017 and was fined $12,154. He knew it was illegal both times. "As soon as I wrapped my arms around it, I was like, 'Oh, I forgot,'" he said after the game.

The biggest fine of Week 1 went to Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, $23,027 for improper use of helmet after he dropped his head into Saints cornerback Quincy Riley's chest on a touchdown run in the third quarter. He was not flagged during the game.

Cowboys running back Javonte Williams was also fined for taunting after one of his two touchdown runs against the Giants.

A total of 20 players were fined across 2,568 Week 1 plays.
