Nicole Kidman Reveals Shocking Feelings She Had About WInning An Oscar

Nicole Kidman is revisiting one of the most candid stories in her public life, and given that she is now navigating a second divorce, it lands differently than it did the first time she told it.

In a new InStyle interview, Kidman revisited the night she won Best Actress at the 2003 Academy Awards for The Hours, her portrayal of Virginia Woolf that remains one of the defining performances of her generation.

She had divorced Tom Cruise two years earlier. She walked up to accept the Oscar. And then she went back to her hotel room alone.

"I want to order French fries and a burger and celebrate this with my lover and I don't have one," she recalled thinking that night. "I need a new life. Please."

She described sitting with her gold statue in the Beverly Hills Hotel feeling "beyond lonely," professionally at the peak, personally adrift.

She has told versions of this story before. The reason it is circulating again is that Kidman finalized her divorce from Keith Urban earlier this year after nearly 29 years of marriage, the relationship that eventually gave her the answer to what she was missing that night in 2003.

She has now been through both sides of the story: the lonely Oscar and the partner she wanted. Whether she finds a third chapter is her business. InStyle asked about the first one.
