Zach Ertz Is Returning To The Philadelphia Eagles At 35
Zach Ertz is going home. The Eagles signed their former three-time Pro Bowl tight end to the practice squad Monday following confirmation that Dallas Goedert sprained his MCL in Sunday's 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans and will miss multiple weeks.
Ertz, 35, has been unsigned since tearing his ACL, LCL and hamstring with Washington in December 2025. He spent eight and a half seasons in Philadelphia, caught the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl LII and left after a midseason trade to Arizona in 2021.
General manager Howie Roseman said in August he had been in regular contact with Ertz and had tremendous respect for him. The Goedert injury made the reunion not just logical but urgent.
The Eagles' tight end room without Goedert is grim, rookie Eli Stowers is on injured reserve, Grant Calcaterra is on IR and only blocking tight ends Johnny Mundt and EJ Jenkins are healthy on the 53-man roster.
Ertz is expected to be elevated to the active roster for Monday Night Football in Chicago against the Bears in Week 3, where Caleb Williams is week-to-week with a hamstring injury.
The reunion also carries a franchise record in play. Ertz has 825 career receptions, 11 catches behind Harold Carmichael on Philadelphia's all-time receptions list. He could break it this season.
