Saquon Barkley Suffered A Stinger On The First Play Of Eagles-Titans Game Sunday

Saquon Barkley got tackled for a loss on the Eagles' first offensive snap of Sunday's 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans at Lincoln Financial Field, and immediately felt the stinger shoot through his left arm and neck.

He went to the medical tent on the sideline, then to the locker room, and missed the rest of the first half entirely.

He returned after halftime, which was the encouraging sign. The discouraging sign: he played only into the third quarter before coming off again, finishing with just four carries for nine yards and one catch for 11 yards.

It was a mostly invisible afternoon for the reigning NFL rushing champion. Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley handled the bulk of the carries, Bigsby pacing the backfield with 15 touches, a touchdown and 38 yards from scrimmage.

Postgame, Barkley was measured. "I'm alright," he told reporters. "We'll know more later in the week." An MRI is scheduled to determine the severity of any structural damage.

The fact he was able to wear a backpack on his left shoulder after the game was noted as a positive indicator. Stingers, temporary nerve injuries caused by impact to the shoulder or neck, can range from a brief annoyance to a condition requiring extended rest.

Philadelphia hosts Washington in Week 3 with Barkley's status now the biggest question surrounding their offense.
